A Calm, Compassionate Space with Tracie Turner

Parts-informed counsellor, educator and BACP-registered practitioner supporting adults in Rochester, Kent and online.

Tracie brings together professional training and a deeply relational way of working. Her approach is grounded in the belief that people are not broken; rather, they often carry ways of being, coping and adapting that once helped them navigate life's challenges. Through a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic relationship, Tracie offers a space to explore these experiences with curiosity, deepen self-awareness, and reconnect with your own inner wisdom and capacity for growth.

Tracie Turner, integrative counsellor at Hope Wellbeing Counselling
Hello

I'm Tracie

Thank you for taking the time to be here, I look forward to getting to know you.

I know that reaching out for counselling can feel daunting. You may not know exactly what to say, where to begin, or whether what you're carrying is enough to ask for support. Perhaps there is a part of you that feels uncertain about being here, whilst another part longs for things to feel different.
Whatever has brought you here, all of your experience is welcome.

I offer a compassionate and supportive space where we can gently explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences together. With curiosity, care and without judgement, we can begin to understand the patterns, protective strategies and challenges that may have shaped your life, helping you develop greater awareness, self-understanding and trust in yourself.

I believe that you are the expert in your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering a safe and compassionate space in which you can explore your experiences, deepen your awareness, and reconnect with the wisdom, strengths and inner resources that are already yours.

I believe that people are not broken. Given the right support, space and relationship, we all have the capacity for healing, growth and meaningful change.

01 My Story

My Journey

My journey into counselling began long before my formal training, shaped by my own early experiences, personal losses, and the resilience that can emerge through life's challenges.

Navigating life with ADHD and dyslexia has deepened my understanding of difference, adaptability and the many ways people make sense of the world around them. Alongside my personal experiences, my early work supporting children and families in primary school settings exposed me to the profound impact that relationships, adversity and emotional experiences can have throughout our lives.

These experiences, together with my professional training, have shaped a deeply compassionate and relational way of working. They have reinforced my belief that people are not broken. Often, we are carrying adaptations that once helped us cope, survive and navigate difficult circumstances. Therapy can offer a space to explore those experiences with curiosity and compassion, reconnecting with the strengths, wisdom and resources that already exist within us.

02 In My Own Words

How I Work

You deserve to be heard.

We often hear the saying "we're all in the same boat", yet I believe that although we may find ourselves in the same storm, our boats can be very different. Some are strong vessels, some are small, and some may even be shipwrecked. Wherever you find yourself in the storm of life, I can offer a compassionate and safe space, an empathic ear, and the skill to help you weather it.

Rarely do we allow ourselves time to focus on ourselves, so difficult emotions build until they spill into other areas of our lives. All emotions deserve to be heard — and so do you. When we accept ourselves, even the parts we're less proud of, we become able to make our own choices and steer our vessel away from the jagged rocks.

I take my place alongside you on that journey — helping you find strength in the resources you already have, so that when you no longer need my support, you feel capable of weathering other storms.

03 Beyond the Training

Lived Experience as Strength

Like many people, I learned early patterns of survival, working hard to fit in, meet expectations, and find a sense of worth through achievement and caring for others. Over time, I came to understand how easily these adaptations can lead to burnout, self-criticism and disconnection from ourselves.

Therapy became a turning point for me. Through my own therapeutic journey, I discovered the transformative power of self-awareness, choice and self-compassion. These experiences continue to shape not only who I am, but how I work with others. Whilst I sometimes resonate with the idea of the wounded healer, I hold it lightly. I do not sit above the work we do together; rather, I bring both professional training and lived understanding to the therapeutic relationship.

Over time, I have come to understand that many of the ways we think, feel and behave make sense when viewed in the context of our experiences. Often, what we criticise in ourselves began as an attempt to cope, adapt or stay safe. My role is to help you explore these responses with curiosity, understanding and compassion.

My work is influenced by Internal Family Systems, Voice Dialogue and other integrative approaches that recognise the different parts of ourselves and the important roles they play. I am interested in the ways people adapt in order to feel safe, loved or a sense of belonging, and how therapy can help them reconnect with parts of themselves that may have been silenced, pushed away or left unheard.

04 My Therapeutic Approach

Ways I Work

Tracie works integratively, adapting her approach to meet the individual needs of each person she works with. At the heart of her practice is the belief that every part of us has a story. Some parts learned to protect us, some learned to keep us safe, and some may still carry experiences that have yet to be fully understood or heard. Through therapy, these parts can be explored with curiosity, compassion and respect.

01

Parts Work, IFS-Informed Therapy & Voice Dialogue

IFS recognises that we all have different parts of ourselves, each with its own feelings, beliefs and ways of responding to life's experiences. You may have parts of you that learned to stay vigilant, please others, avoid conflict, strive for perfection, or carry the impact of painful experiences. You may also have parts that hold creativity, confidence, joy and hope. Together, we can explore these parts with curiosity and compassion, helping you understand yourself more fully, develop greater self-awareness, and create space for healing, growth and lasting change.

02

Person-Centred Therapy

Person-Centred Therapy is built on the belief that people naturally move towards growth and change when they are met with genuine acceptance, empathy and understanding. Rather than being directed or told what to do, you are supported to explore your experiences in a way that feels meaningful and true to you. Through a trusting therapeutic relationship, and by creating the conditions for openness, honesty and self-exploration, therapy can help you uncover new perspectives, develop a stronger sense of self, and find your own way forward.

03

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt Therapy focuses on developing awareness of your present-moment experience. By paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and relationships, we can begin to notice patterns that may be operating outside of awareness. This approach can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, work through unfinished experiences, and reconnect with aspects of yourself that may have been overlooked, hidden or left unheard.

04

CBT, Woven in Where Useful

CBT can help you recognise the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and the impact they can have on your everyday life. At times, it may be helpful to explore patterns such as self-criticism, anxiety, overwhelm or unhelpful thinking styles. Rather than following a structured CBT programme, I may draw upon CBT-informed tools and strategies where they support our wider therapeutic work, helping you develop practical ways of responding to life's challenges.

05

Integrative Practice

I believe that therapy should fit the person, not the other way around.

I work integratively, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches to support your unique needs and experiences. We are all unique, and what feels helpful at one stage of life may be different at another. Sometimes our work may involve exploring past experiences and understanding how they have shaped us. Sometimes it may be about developing awareness of what is happening in the present moment, or learning practical ways to manage life's difficulties. At other times, it may involve exploring the different parts of yourself, understanding relationship patterns, or reconnecting with strengths and qualities that have been forgotten along the way.

Drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches, I work collaboratively and flexibly, tailoring therapy to meet your individual needs, goals and circumstances

06 My Grounding Beliefs

What I Believe

i.

We are all good enough.

This belief sits at the foundation of how I understand people. Life, relationships, trauma and the business of survival can sometimes cloud our sense of who we are, leaving us doubting ourselves or feeling disconnected from our own value. I believe therapy can help us reconnect with what has always been there beneath those experiences our worth, resilience and capacity for growth.

ii.

Change begins with compassion.

Many of us have learned to motivate ourselves through self-criticism, believing we need to work harder, do better or be different. Yet real change often begins when we stop fighting ourselves and start understanding ourselves. Compassion creates the conditions for healing, growth and new possibilities.

iii.

Real listening can be transformative.

There is something deeply healing about being truly heard. When someone listens with care, curiosity and understanding, we often begin to make sense of our experiences in new ways. Sometimes, simply having the space to hear yourself more clearly can become the starting point for meaningful change

iv.

Life is a process.

We are never in one fixed state. Throughout our lives, we move through different thoughts, feelings and experiences, sometimes feeling settled and connected, and at other times uncertain or overwhelmed. Therapy can offer an opportunity to pause, notice where you are, and explore what may be asking for your attention.

v.

You are not what happened to you.

When something feels too difficult to process, we often learn ways of carrying it so that we can keep going. Over time, those ways of coping can feel so familiar that we mistake them for who we are. Therapy offers a space to understand those experiences, loosen their hold, and rediscover yourself beyond them.

Naming these responses for what they are ways of surviving rather than reflections of who you truly are can be the first step towards greater freedom, choice and self-understanding." When we recognise these responses as ways of surviving, rather than who we are, we take the first step towards freedom from them.

On listening well
We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.
